“I Trusted These Since I Was 13. The Truth Made Me Feel Sick.”
I’m angry.
And honestly, I’m scared.
I’ve used tampons since I was 13.
They’ve been with me through everything — school, sports, sleepovers, travel, relationships.
They were more than just a product.
They were part of my routine… part of growing up… part of me.
I never thought to question them.
Why would I? They were just there. Safe. Trusted.
Then I saw a lab test that changed everything.
It wasn’t some random blog post.
It was from a major newspaper in Norway — a country that’s known for having some of the strictest safety laws in the world.
If anyone was going to catch something like this, it was them.
They tested 146 tampons — the kind we all buy, the brands we don’t even think twice about.
And here’s what hit me like a punch to the stomach:
Every single one contained lead.
Yes — lead. The same toxic metal banned in gasoline and paint. The kind of thing that’s not supposed to be anywhere near our body.
But it gets worse!
The test showed that lead can leak out of the tampon and into your body.
But the part that made my heart drop?
Lead can reach your unborn baby.
If you’re pregnant — or trying — this should terrify you.
Because lead has been linked to:
lower IQ, brain damage, and long-term problems in kids.
I had to read that twice. I honestly felt like I was going to be sick.
How is that even allowed?
How has no one told us this?
We’ve been putting these inside our bodies since we were kids — and no one thought we deserved to know?
I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
I needed answers — real ones.
So I started asking questions.
I emailed some companies.
A few didn’t answer.
The ones that did sent me copy-paste replies like:
“We follow all safety rules.”
Okay… but that’s not an answer.
I asked for test results.
Nothing.
I asked what’s actually in the tampon.
Still nothing.
Then I found one public statement. It said:
“The lead is naturally present in the soil where the raw materials are grown.”
Wait, what?
So they know it’s in there — and they still don’t test every batch?
That’s not a good excuse. That’s an admission!
Just because something grows in the ground doesn’t make it safe to put inside your body.
Especially not something that could hurt your baby before it’s even born.
That’s when I realized:
“Organic” doesn’t mean clean.
It doesn’t mean tested.
It just means the cotton was grown without pesticides.
But if the soil has lead in it, and no one checks the final product…
then that lead ends up in you.
And that’s not even counting what can be added later —
like from machines, dyes, or the applicator.
And the worst part?
No one’s required to test.
Most of the time, no one does.
So yeah… I kept going.
Because once you know this stuff,
you can’t un-know it.
I Needed to See the Whole Picture
By this point, I didn’t trust anyone.
Not the brands. Not the labels. Not the pretty promises on the box.
I didn’t want green logos or nice words.
I wanted facts!
So I started digging — brand by brand.
Who’s actually testing?
Who’s sharing results?
And who’s just staying silent?
That’s when I came across this:
We’ve been kept in the dark for too long.
Told to trust. Told not to ask questions.
And while we were quiet, they made billions
selling us products that were never fully tested… for bodies like ours.
That ends now.
Because once you see the truth, you can’t unsee it.
And once we start asking the right questions — together — they can’t ignore us.
We’re not powerless.
We’re not alone.
And we’re done pretending we don’t see what’s right in front of us.
